♦ [united press association,"] Wellington, June 4. Much excitement was caused yesterday at Carterton by the arrest of Thomas and Joseph Strawbridge, farmers, of Waibakeke, on suspicion of being connected with the recent robberies of drapery and boots, some of which have been found and identified. They appear this afternoon. The police are
working hard to find out where the proceeds of the late robberies are planted. Later. • At Carterton this afternoon, the Strawbridges, charged with robbery, pleaded not guilty. Detective Chrystall asked for a remand. There is property in their hand which is believed to have been stolen, the ownership of which has not been ascertained. Some of it has been identified as having been stolen. The prisoners were remanded till Wednesday. Bail was allowed to the amount of £6OO. Timaku, June 4. William Dawson, carrier, was thrown out of his cart on Saturday and the wheel passed over his neck, breaking it. At the inquest a verdict of accidental death, was returned.
