Two auditors are required, and nominations will be received at the Town Clerk’s Office up till noon on Thursday, 24th May. The Hospital Committee will hold their usual fortnightly meeting at the Town Hall this evening at 8 o’clock. By the election of Mr Shaw there will be still nine lawyers in the House, namely, Messrs Bathgate, Conolly, DeLautour, Holmes, O’Rorke, Sheehan, Tole, Whitaker, Wynn Williams, and Shaw. The execution of Joseph Brady took place yesterday at an hour corresponding to 7.30 (New Zealand time) last evening. The news reached Wakapuaka at 1.30, and Kumara at 3.30, this afternoon —a period of only 20 hours, or 18 Lo New Zealand. This speaks volumes for the efficiency of the cable arrangements. Twelve chains of race are required to be cut for the Long Tunnel Gold Mining Company. Specifications of the work may be seen at Messrs Davidson Bros., blacksmiths, or at Mr Kigali's. Tenders for the same will be received at the office of the company not later than 8 o’clock tomorrow evening. The train between New Plymouth and Hawera takes three hours and forty minutes to cover the distance, 48 miles.

At the late meeting of the Board of Education at Greymouth a circular was handed in from the Education Department notifying that Mr James Woodward, of Kumara School, had received a certificate in the C 1 Standard. —A letter was received from the Secretary Wairnea School Committee, requesting the Board to appoint Miss Annie Lock to be pupil teacher of £he Goldsborough School.—A letter was also received from Mr W. Smith, of Stafford, complaining of the action of the School Committee, in connection with the appointment of pupil teacher. It was resolved that H. Smith be appointed pupil teacher of the Goldsborough School, provided he can obtain a certificate as to his fitness, physically, for the appointment. A meeting, or rather a series of meetings (the Times says), of the creditors of Michael Costello (of Rimu), took place yesterday in the Supreme Court House, Hokitika. The creditors present were Messrs Malfroy (chair), Amberger, Blunck, Cullen, Henderson, Pizzey, Kortegast, Mandl, and Holmes. Mr Lewis represented the creditors, and Mr Purkiss appeared for the debtor, who offered to pay 20s in the £ at once, and all expenses. After a stormy discussion, the offer was refused, and the creditors decided to go on with the bankruptcy proceedings unless the debtor agreed to sign a release that he would take no future action in consequence of their proceedings. Finally, at a last meeting, it was resolved on the motion of Mr Pollock seconded by Mr Holmes, to accept 20s in the £, the creditors to pay their own costs, and a release to be given against any future action on either side.
