KUMARA PROSPECTING ASSOCIATION.
The first meeting of the Committee of the Association was held on Thursday evening, at the Town Hall; present—His Worship the Mayor (W. Barnett, Esq.), Messrs R. J. Seddon, M.H.R., H. Burger, J. O'Hagan, and J. Mulvihill, members of the Borough Council, together with Messrs L. Ziegler and I). Hannan. On the motion of Mr Seddon, seconded by Mr O'Hagan, it was resolved that Mr Burger be President of the Association. Mr Hannan was appointed honorary secretary. > Mr Seddon proposed and Mr O'Hagan seconded, and it was carried—" That the Secretary write to the Borough Council requesting a subsidy of 5s in the £ on the value of any work which may be done by the association in prospecting." It was resolved on the motion of Mr Seddon, seconded by Mr Mulvihill, " That the Secretary write to the County Chairman, and apply, under the rule laid down, by the County Council for assisting prospecting parties, for the grant to this association of a subsidy of 5s iu the £ on the value of any work which may be done by it in prospecting." It was then resolved that the town be canvassed for subscribers to aid the association for? the purpose of prospecting. •■■">'.. Messrs Mulvihill, O'Hagan, and Rudkiri were appointed to canvass the residents of the Main road, and Messrs Seddon', Burger, Ziegler, and Barnett, Seddon street. On the motion of Mr Barnett, seconded by Mr O'Hagan, it was resolved— " That the Secretary write to the County Chairman, requesting the use of the new boring.machine; and in the event of the County Council being unable to comply, to. ascertain what sum (if any) the Council would contribute towards the purchase of a machine to be used between the Arahura road and the Teremakau river." It was further resolved . that the Kumara Borough Council be written to requesting the Council to state what sum (if any) the Council would be willing to contribute towards the purchase of a boring machine in the event of the association being unable to obtain the use of one from, the County Council. On the motion of. .Mr Seddon, seconded by Mr Mulvihill, it was resolved that the Secretary communicate with the Hon. the Minister of Mines to ascertain to what .extent the Government would assist this association in procuring a rock-boring machine for prospecting purposes. The meeting then adjourned till Wednesday, 16th" inst., at 8 p.m.
