WESTLAND COUNTY COUNCIL.
The Council"met at two o'clock yesterday afternoon ; present—The County Chairman (J. M'Whirter, Esq.), Messrs M'Goldrick, Cumming, Seddon, Jack, Rose, Hirter, Grimmond, and Dungan. The following business affecting this district is taken from the West Coast Times : TIFFIN BOEING MACHINE. A letter was read from the legal manager, Donnelly's Creek Company, Ross, applying for the use of Tiffin's boring machine.—Received. Mr Seddon said the Company should buy their own machine. He objected to the Council letting the machine to a private company. Mr Grimmond said a code o£ regulations should be drawn up, under which the machine could be leased or used. Mr Seddon moved that a notification be sent to the applicant that it was not the iutention at present to let the machine to private companies. Mr M'Goldrick seconded. The Chairman thought that it would be better to prospect Crown lands first. Mr Dungan suggested that the Ross Borough might pay half the cost of the machine. Mr Rose thought if the machine were left in the hands of the Council, it might become a "white elephant." He supported Mr Grimmond's views. Mr Cuining thought it did not matter to whom the machine was let, so long as it was paid for. Mr Jack "thought two men were a company as much as two hundred. It did not matter a bib to whom the machine was let so long as it was worked within the County. Mr Seddon said this was a " try on " of Donnelly's Creek Company. It was astonishing that after issuing a prospectus, aad obtaining money by false pretences from the public, that the company should ask the Council to prospect their ground for them. The motion was carried. ARAHURA TRACKS. Mr Seddon moved, "That Mr Kerr report'on the state of the tracks from Big Dam to Fox's, and from Fox's to Stony Creek, and give estimate of amount necessary to put these tracks in fair repair."—Carried. STAFFORD ROAD BOARD. Mr Seddon moved, "That the County building, known as the Road Board Office, Stafford Town, be put in repair; cost not to exceed .210."—Carried. CHRISTCHURCH ROAD DEVIATION. Mr Dungan moved, " That the Chairman communicate with the Minister for Public Works, drawing attention to the necessity of an extention of the deviation of the Christchurch road, along the sideling on western side of creek, to junction of the toad to Kumara."—Carried. ACCOUNTS. Accounts to the amount of £777 15a were passed for payment. The Council then adjourned.
