“N.Z.R.” asks :—“What is the average speed of trains run on the New Zealand Railways ?” Express trains in New Zealand run at about 18 miles, including stoppages (say two) in the hour; ordinary trains at about 14 miles. The above computations are taken from the published North and Middle Island railway time-tables. We believe the average speed is under 12 miles an hour.
