ASSESSMENT COURT.

A sitting of the Assessment Court for the revision of the Valuation List for the Borough of Kumara which had been adjourned from the 6th April, was held in the Resident Magistrate’s Court House, yesterday, J. Giles, Esq., Judge of the said Court, presiding, • R. J. Seddon, L 45 on hotel, objected 1, That the valuation on hotel, section 12, was excessive; 2, That the valuer had not been legally appointed; 3, That the valuation had not been made within the prescribed time; 4, That the List was not properly compiled, and that it did not contain the particulars of properties let or leased.—His Honor overruled the technical objections. Valuation reduced to L 36. Similar objections by Reuben Toms were withdrawn, consequent on the foregoing decision. Sophie Williams, made objection that she was not the owner of section 114, Seddon street, rated at L2O; O. W. Anderson was the owner.—Alteration made accordingly. A. Bristow (for the National Bank of New Zealand) stated—l, That the Bank wss not the owner of the property rated ; 2, That the rateable value was excessive ; 3, That although the Bank had paid rates before for this property, it objects to do so unless the amount is merely nominal.—Roll valuation L 23, reduced to Lll 10s; valuation L3l, reduced to Ll 5 10s. James Wylde, various ssctions in the borough rated at LI 16, reduced to LIOO. The same applied that the name of Thomas R. Connell, whose name appears as occupier of section 110, Seddon street, was not entitled to be inserted on said list.—Objection overruled. The same applied that the name of James Pearson, rated as occupier of section 5, Seddon street, was not entitled to be on said list,—Objection overruled. The same that the name of William Perkins was inserted on list as owner of section 135 Main street, valuation L 7 10s, whereas he was not the owner of such property.—“ The owner ” to be inserted, as provided by section 11 of the “ Rating Act, 1876.” J. Downey that the rate is excessive and that he does not own section 134. Struck out. A C. Campbell, section 104, L 2 5; reduced to L2O. Section 43, L4O; reduced to L 36,
