THE LATE FIRE.
MEETING AT THE TOWN HALL. At the public meeting at the Town Hall last evening of gentlemen interested in the efforts being made to relieve the sufferers by the late fire in Main street, the Rev. J. Holland was voted to the chair. He explained the object of the meeting and what bad been already done in the matter of collecting subscriptions. Mr P. Kiely was elected Secretary pro tem. Mr D. Hannan proposed “That a public meeting be called for Saturday evening, the Tth inst., at eight o’clock, for the purpose of extending the operations for collecting a fund for the sufferers by the late fire; and also to form a committee to carry out the necessary steps.”
Mr MacDermott seconded the motion, which was carried. On the motion of Mr Hannan, seconded by Mr M‘Ennis, a vote of thanks was accorded to the Rev. J. Holland for the expeditions manner in which he had set about taking means to collect subscriptions. The Chairman, in responding, said he was anxious that a committee should be formed to carry on the work of collecting, and also to apportion the moneys subscribed. Mr R. Toms proposed that the meeting stand adjourned till Saturday evening, at 8 o’clock. This was seconded by Mr M. Maloney, and carried.
