Byrne, who was recently arrested in Paris, pleads an alibi, and has not yet been given up by the French authorities.
It is stated to be probable that Mr Childera, in making his Budget statement after the Easter recess, will show a deficit of one million sterling at the close of the financial year. The Parliamentary Committee appointed to consider the revision of the Customs tariff has recommended the introduction of a Bill to provide for increased duties upon metals and metal goods.
