INTERPROVINCIAL BOAT RACES.

The fourth race between crews representing the Canterbury and Otago Rowing Clubs took place on Friday last, at Henley on the Taieri River, Otago. The crews were made up thus—Otago: S. B. Gibson, lOst 111 b, bow; G. L. Drew, 12st 81b, 2; W. H. Fowler, 13st, 3 ; B. H. Fulton, lOst 81b, stroke, Canterbury : J. O. Jones, lOst 21b, bow; J. Grierson, list 81b, 2; E. M. Boulton, list 61b, 3; A. C. M'Lean. list 61b, stroke. A nice breeze was blowing, but the water was not rough. Mr Allen was Judge, Mr Aspinall Umpire, and Mr Fenwick Starter. The race was started at about 2.20 p.m. Canterbury put on a quick stroke and at once drew away with a lead. When they settled down to work it was seen that the Canterbury men pulled more together than Otago, and keeping up a stroke of forty to the minute they increased their lead every moment. - When about two lengths ahead they slowed down to thirty-seven, and Otago, keeping up a quick stroke, held their own. They could not gain, however, and Canterbury was never in trouble, winning a most hollow race. Passing the post they were five lengths ahead. Otago spurted well the last quarter of a mile. About 300 people witnessed the race. The results of the interprovincial matches up to the present time are:— 1880—At Sumner, Otago won. 1881—At Henley, Canterbury won. 1882—At Sumner, Canterbury won. 1883—At Henley, Canterbury won.
