(Received February 10, 5 p.m.) London, February 9. The trial of the prisoner Dowling, for the murder of Detective Fox in November last was concluded to-day. The jury found the prisoner guilty, and the sentence of penal servitude for life was passed upon him. Mr Ashton W. Dilke, the junior Liberal member for Newcastle-on-Tyne, has resigned his seat in the House of Commons. (Received February 12, 1.10 a.m.) February 11. The trial of the Phoenix Park murderers was continued at Dublin. Kavanagh, the car driver, who had been arrested by the police, has turned informer, and given conclusive evidence regarding the assassination of Lord Cavendish and Mr Burke. He described in detail the manner in which the crime was perpetrated by the prisoners Carey, Delaney, Kelly, and Brady. Kavanagh also admits that he drove the car used by the assassins of Field. The case has.been adjourned to Thursday next, 15 th inst. The trial of the editor of the " United Ireland," who was arrested on December 25th, when the newspaper was confiscated by the police on account of the publication of seditious articles, was brought to a conclusion to-day. The jury were, however, unable to agree, and a new trial has been ordered. Gladstone, who was expected to return here to-day from Cannes, is still at that place, and his return has been postponed indefinitely.

Sir Stafford Northcote arrived here yesterday from his cruise in the Mediterranean.

Cardinal MacCabe, Roman Catholic Archbishop of Dublin, is seriously ill, and his condition is stated to be critical by his medical attendants. Paris, February 9.

The Company state that they will employ eight or ten large steamers, with extensive capacity for cargo, and they are to make the passage in from fortytwo to forty-six days. The Nihilists have warned the Czar that they will renew their intimidation policy unless their demands are agreed to and granted before the coronation day. The inhabitants of Madagascar are becoming alarmed, as they fear that the French will bombard Tamative, a port on the eastern coast. Many are anxious for an English protectorate.
