VOLUNTEER FIRE BRIGADE.

The monthly meeting of members of the Volunteer Fire Brigade was held in the Town Hall on Wednesday evening last j present—Capt. Dove, Lieut. Anderson, Firemen Valentine, Williams Ross, Close, Orams, and Skilton (Secretary). The minutes of the previous month's meeting as read were confirmed. The minutes of the special meeting stood over for confirmation until the next meeting. Mr J. S. Pearn was elected an honorary member of the Brigade. Accounts amounting to j£l 6s were passed for payment. Receipts for members' fund were handed in amounting to £1 8s; and donations collected by Messrs Rudkin and Ziegler, 12s. Firemen Ross, Orams, and Williams were elected to act on the Standing Committee, in conjunction with the officers. Foreman Close appointed Fireman Ross as Deputy of the Hook and Ladder Company. Foreman Brayshaw appointed Firemen Valentine and Ziegler as members of the Fire Company. Captain Dove gave notice o£ his intention to move, at next month's meeting—" That the practices be held on the first and third Wednesdays in the month." Foreman Close moved and Fireman Valentine seconded—" That the Working Committee be empowered to get the grapnel altered and a new one made."— The motion was carried. The consideration of a balance-sheet which had been prepared was ordered to stand over till next Wednesday week. On the motion of Fireman Valentine, seconded by Fireman Spyer, Capt. Dove was unanimously i-e-elected Captain for the ensuing year. The following other officers were elected for the year :—Anderson, lieutenant ; Close, foreman of the hook and ladder company; Brayshaw, foreman of fire company; Burger, treasurer; Carey, secretary (with a salary of .£5). This concluded the business.
