(Received January 30, 4.40 p.m.) The international cricket match was won to-day by 69 runs by the Hon. Ivo Bligh’s team, who have thus been victorious in two out of three contests. The weather to-day was fine, but very hot, and there was again a large attendance of spectators. The wicket was not in good order, having been rendered very treacherous by Sunday’s rain. The Australian team went in for their second innings, requiring to make 153 runs to win, but owing to the splendid bowling and fielding of their opponents they only succeeded in putting together a total of 83. The following is the score: Australian Eleven. SECOND INNINGS. Giffen, boweld ... ... 7 Bannenuan, caught ... 5 Murdoch, caught ... 0 M‘Donnell, caught ... 0 Horan, run out... ... 8 Bonner, bowled ... 8 Massie, caught... ... 11 Spofforth, caught ... 7 Blackham, bowled ... 26 Garrett, bowled ... 1 Palmer, not out ... 3 Extras ... ... 7 Total 83 (Received January 30, 10 p.m.) The Englishmen met with a very cordial reception upon the completion of the match. Great excitement prevailed towards the finish, and the easy defeat of the Australians created much surprise. Blackham played excellent cricket for his innings of 26, and the complete collapse of the remainder of the team was unexpected. Several of the batsmen were, however, quite out of form. Barlow took 7 wickets for 40 runs, and bowled splendidly throughout the innings. The remaining two wickets fell to Morley for 34. It is estimated that fully seven thousand syectators were present. Additional matches between the combined teams representing Australia and the Hon. Ivo Bligh’s eleven are projected. (Received January 31, 12.30 p.m.) January 31. The Hon. Ivo Bligh has thrown down the gauntlet and challenged the best team Australia can produce for a
match, to take place in Sydney in about three weeks’ time. The English cricketers have gone to Queensland to play several matches in that colony.
