Carroll, 8 yds. ... 4 This event proved one of the most exciting of the day, resulting a dead heat between Jno. Carroll and O'Loughlan. In the run off Carroll beat his man by about four yards. 400 yards. John Carroll, 15 yds. ... 1 H. Bell, 5 yds 2 M. O'Loughlan, scr. ... 8 E. Griffiths, 8 yds. ... 4 Before this event was run the final issue of the Grand Handicap was looked upon as a certainty for O'Loughlan, but to the surprise of everyone Carroll ran the 400 yards very strong, winning by several yards. The points therefore stood :—Carroll, 16 points, first prize, £B, O'Loughlan, 15 points, second prize, £4; Griffiths and Bell, being each 5 points, divided third and fourth money, taking £1 10s apiece. Standing Flat Jump.—First prize, £1 ; second, 10s. H. Bell, 10ft 6in ... 1 E. Smyrk, 10ft 4in ... 2 Handicap Half-Mile Race. First prize, £3 ; second, £l. Griffiths, 15 yards ... 1 Bell, 10 yards 2 O'Loughlan, scratch; Gal land, 15 yards; Blanchet, 20 yards; and Croucher, 30 yards, also ran. Won rather easily by Griffiths. Handicap Hurdle Race, 440 yards. First prize, £3 ; second, £l. M. O'Loughlan, 6 yds ... 1 J. Carroll, Byds 2 E. Griffiths, scr; Job Lines, scr; E. Blanchet, 15 yards ; and T. Croucher, 20 yards, also ran. This was a capital race, O'Loughlan beating Carroll by a couple of feet, Griffiths third. Hop, Step, and Jump. First prize, £1; second, 10s. E.
