[NEW ZEALAND PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Westport, June 20. A seaman named 0. P. Hallenon was lost overboard from the steamer Meikaworth, between Rocks Point and the Buller on Sunday night, Deceased was securing the boom, when he was knocked over the bridge. A boat was lowered and three hours unsuccessful search was made. The night was very dark. He leaves a wife and two children in Sweden. He only lately arrived in the colony. The steamer reports terrific weather at sea. Auckland, June 19. A terrible tragedy occurred in Chapel street this morning. A mill hand named Henry Foreman, aged. 22, who had been married only seven weeks, took down his carbine and threatened to shoot his wife. She ran out of the house, but had not gone many yards before she heard a shot. Foreman was found dead, with a large wonnd over the region of his heart. Jealousy is assigned as the cause. Deceased was a member of the Naval Brigade. Ellen Kelly, arrested on a charge of bigamy, for marrying Alex. Danason on the 10th October, her husband W. Kelly being then alive, was remanded. Timauu, June 18. Detective Kirby left yesterday for Ran Francisco via Auckland in quest of the levanting debtor Shepherd. June 19. The ship City of Perth, stranded on May 14'h, was successfully towed off his afternoon, by the tug Lyttelton. She will he taken to Port Chalmers to lie docked. June 20. As far as can be ascertained, the only damage the City of Perth haa sustained while aground, was the loss of her rudder. Christchurch, June 17. The promoters of the Exhibition in conjunction with the Mayor of Christchurch are preparing a series of special entertainments in honor of the visit of members of Parliament on Jnne 29. June 19. The comet haa been plainly seen this evening in Canterbury, from many points. June 20. A man named Bowman, in the employ of Marmaduke Dixon, Eyreton, was driving a here and dray yesterday, when the horse bolted. Bowman fell under the dray receiving injuries from which lie died shortly after. He leaves a large family unprovided for. Wellington, June 18. Hearn has accepted the challenge to row Reynolds, of Sydney, for .£IOO, and adds that be will allow him £25 ex-
penses to come to Wellington. Hearn also states that as there are no skiffs in Wellington, Reynolds should bring two with him from Sydney and he will toss for choice, or he is willing to row him in best and best boats for any sum over £IOO. Dunedin, June 18. Rather a serious accident occurred in George street Inst night. While a fire escape was being tried, two firemen were coming down from the top storey of a drapery warehouse, when the rope broke and the two fell through the verandah on to the pavement. Two boys named Finlayson were struck by the men as they landed and were stunned, one remained unconscious all night, but neither are seriously injured. The firemen escaped with a few bruises, A Fortrose telegram brings word that a young gentleman named Slater, recently from Home, who was on a visit to Mr E. S. Vernon, of Tois Tois Station, has been discovered lying dead beside a creek in the bush. Ho had been out shooting and his gun had evidently discharged itself, as the top of the young man's head was blown clean off. His body had evidently lain all night.
