BRITISH AND FOREIGN. London, June 9. Obituary : Mr John Scott Russell, tlie well-known engineer aud naval architect, aged 74. Alexandria, June 10. The strong ill-feeling of the native population of this city towards Europeans manifested itself last evening in an attack by larger bodies of the firmer upon several parties of Finnish and other residents. In the affr-iys which took place several Europeans were killed, including ati engineer of H.M.S. Superb, and many were, wouilile'l, including the British Con-nil, who suff.ivd very severe injury. The disturbance w.is ultimately suppressed by the military being called out, when order was restored. AUSTRALIANS V. NOTTINGHAM. London, June 10. The cricket match, Australians versus Nottinglum, was resumed to-day at Nottingham. The weather was fine, but the wicket was heavy, owing to the rain which fell yesterday. The attendance of spectators was enormous. The Home team resumed their first innings, which closed for a total of 110 runs, as against 1-42 of the Austialians. The latter went in for their second innitigs and were all disposed of for 106, Bonner being the highest scorer with 39 (caught). When time was called the Nottingham eleven had scored 12 runs for the loss of one wicket. The match was consequently drawn, the Home team requiring 127 runs to win. A misunderstanding occurred during the progress of play to-day, owing to the accidental exclusion of the Australians from the luncheon tent, and Murdoch twice refnsed to accept the apologies of the Nottingham committee for the occurrence. LATEST AUSTRALIAN NEWS. Melbourne, June 12. A robberv of £ISOO worth of jewellery was effected last night from the shop of Mr Airnskie, in Lonsdale street. No arrests have yet been made in connection with the affair. Adelaide, June 12. Hargis, the Auckland absconder, has been sentenced to a fortnight's imprisonment previous to his extradition under the New Zealand warrant.
