CENTRAL BOARD OF EDUCATION.

Tlib Board met at the Board room, Maokay street, Greymonth, on Thursday evening last; p-esent—Messrs Perkins, (Chairman), Morice, Reid, Rudkin, Taylor, and Warner. The following business having reference to this and adjacent districts is extracted from the report in the Grey River Argus ; The Secretary Paoa Committee, requested the Board to supply the school with fuel, the committee havin'* no funds. ° The Secretaiy was directed to send a supply of coal, and to deduct the cost of same from the quarterly grant. Resolved—“ That cheques he forwarded to tne various School Committees for the allowance for the quarter ending June 30th.” From the Chairman Hokitika Committee, recommending Mias Loui«a Howe for appointment as pupil teacher, in place of Miss Jones, late assistant teacher Hokitika School.

The Board decided to defer the con* sideratiou of the appointment of a pupil teacher until the retarn of the attendance for the present quarter at the Hokitika School is received* From the Chairman Waimea Com* mittee. stating that Miss Hogg* assist* ant teacher Goldsborough School, has tendered her resignation. Resolved—“ That Miss Hogg’s resignation as assistant teacher at the Goldsborough School be accepted, and that Miss Hogg be requested to notify the same to the Board, as required bv the Act.” 3

Resolved—“ That Miss Martin, as* sistant teacher at Callaghan’s School, be transferred to the Goldsborough School, as junior assistant.” From the Chairman Waimea Com* mittee, recommending the appointment of Mr F. Robinson, pupil teacher, Stafford School, to the Callaghan’s School. From the Inspector, recommending the appointment. Resolved Robertson be appointed teacher at Callaghan’s School, as recommended by the Wairaea Committee, provided the Staffoid Committee make no objection to the appointment.” From the Chairman Waimea Committee, recommending Mr E. J. Mulhearu for appointment as pupil teacher at Goldsborough School. The Secretary was directed to inform the committee that the school is at present only entitled to one pnpil teacher.

In reply to a telegram from J. Petrie, Esq., M.H.R., asking for an expression of opinion as to the proposal to divide the Educational District of Westland, it was resolved—“ That Mr Petrie be informed that the Board is opposed to any division of the district resulting in •jiving a less number of schools than the Board has at present under its charge; and if any division of educational districts is contemplated, the addition of Reefton and Westport to this district is desirable.” The Secretary reported re staff of schools as per regulations. Par a School—Entittled to 1 adult and 1 pupil teacher. Kumara School—Entitled to 3 adult and 4 pupil teachers. If present average continues, will be entitled to 4 adult teachers. Goldsborough School—Entitled to 2 adult teachers and 1 pupil teacher. The West Coast Times states that “ Before adjourning the meeting, Mr Perkins stated that he intended shortly resigning the Chairmanship of the Board. He had found the duties irksome and incompatible with his business. He would give due notice of his resignation, but mentioned his intention of doing so, at that meeting, so that members would not be taken unawares.”
