BRITISH AND FOREIGN. London, Jane 5. Sir Henry Parkes, has left England to visit Belgium. The Premier of New South Wales has announced his intention of returning to Australia at an early date. June 6. Telegrams are to hand from Malta, announcing that a member of the Maltese Executive Council will shortly leave for Australia with a view to promote emigration of Maltese to the colonies. Constantinople, June 3. Dervish Pasha, accompanied by other officers, sailed to-day for Alexandria. June 5. Frequent communications have been passing between the Foreign Ambassadors and the Porte on the subject of the proposal to bold a conference for the settlement of the Egyptian question. It has transpired that the Turkish Goverument, without absolutely rejecting the proposal, has strongly urged that the conference would be useless in bringing about the result desired. The majority of the Powers have, it is understood, accepted the views of the Porte, and it is considered nnlikelv therefore that the conference will be held. A disastrous boiler explosion occurred at the Apoilo Stearine Candle Manufactory, Brownshell, to-day, and the buildings were seriously damaged. One man lost his life. Sydney, June 7. The Newcastle Agricultural Company’s miners have now declined to submit the matters in dispute to arbitration on the terms proposed, and have decided to refer the subject to the whole district. Great disappointment is felt at the failure of the negotiations for arbitration.
