Nelson, April 20. A fire occurred at Hope on Sunday morning, when a four-roomed house, occupied by a shoemaker named Machad, was destroyed. The house was insured in the Colonial £IOO and the stock and furniture in the Norwich Union for £2OO. Two of the children of Machari were sick and were removed with some difficulty.

Wellington, April 22. The proposal is mooted here to form a company with a capital of £6OOO to iniild a new theatre in Cuba street. A large part of the required capital is already subscribed.

Dr. Lemon received a teleg-am from Madras asking if he had any disturbance affecting the wires in New Zealand, as this was the case in other places.
