—♦ BRITISH AND FOREIGN. London, April 19. An extensive strike of colliers has occurred at Wrexham, North Wales. The locked-out miners to-day in great numbers besieged the officials of the various mines, and the latter only effected their escape from the attack of the mob with difficulty. The Military stationed in the neighborhood had to be called out before the disturbance conld be suppressed. Sir Henry Parkes was this evening entertained at a banquet by the Right Hon. W. E. Gladstone. A large numof persons were invited to meet the New South Wales Premier. San Francisco, April 19. The steamship City of Sydney, which left Auckland on March 28th, arrived here yesterday, two days ahead of contract time. St. Petersburg, April 19. Official statements have been published here regarding the state of affairs in Southern Russia, in which the fact of the late outrages against the Jews having been of violent and widespread character is fully admitted by Government. In addition to official accounts, reports are to hand from unofficial sources in which the assailants of the Jews are chavged with having been guilty of acts of the most barbatous and atrocious character. LATEST AUSTRALIAN NEWS. Sydney, April 2.1. Messrs Haynes and Archibald, defendants in the libel case Moore versus Proprietors of Bulletin, who were imprisoned on the 16th March for nonsatisfaction of the writ for over £6OO costs in the suit, were to-day released from gaol, the money having been guaranteed in payment of costs. Adelaide, April 20. The trial of Mpssrs Barker, Forsyth, and Dr. Hortcn, for alleged conspiracy to defraud the Australian National Provident Society, was continued today. In the course of cross-examina-tion Hicke, who has tamed Queen's evidence, made a statement strongly inculpating; the prisoners. An explosion of gas occurred in a chapel at Paramatta last night. The building was seriously damaged, but no one was injured.
Brisbane, April 20. Seams of coal have heen discovered at Falmerville, on the Palmer river, in the north of this colony.
