TIMES.] The six events competed for yesterday were the followmg : Handicap HUrdli) Race of 30 sovs !f two miles.—Second hdrse to save his atakei Mr Bartou's Bat, 9st 41bs 1 Mr Frectb's Dick j 1 Ost 121bs .., 3 Whalebone was also entered, but did not put in an appearance. Dick merely came to the post in order to save his stake, and save himself also for the leading eVent. But took the Hurdles well, aud, though the race was simply a walk over, Barton jun., was accorded a cheer in fronting the-Judge's box* Westland Handicap of 65 sovs., two miles.—Second horse to save his stake. Mr Osborne's Talent, ost 4lbs . ;J 1 Mr Osborne's Longlands, lOst 7lbs. 2 Mr Freeth's Dick, 7st 61bs ..i 3 Mr Freeth's Marie Stuart, 7st libs 0 Mr Osborne's Fishhook, list i; , 0 Mr Dillon's Rore, 7st ..; #{; 0 Mr Evans' Bide-a-wee, 7st ..." 0 This was aii excellent race aud the excitement over it was immense. The winner appeared-to have few admirers, there beiiig only £6 staked on him on the totalisator of £l9O.- Mr Osborne declared to win with Talent, much, to the astonishment of a large number- b£ his friends, who thought Longlands had by far the best chance, Longlands had the race, in his hands from the start to the finish, and only kept upon Talent's hind quarters, fearing Diolfit, who ran gamely to the end* The finish was a'close'one--between the first three •horses, and we are not quite certain iis to the order in which the last fodr passed the ; stand. . Farmers Race of 10 sovs.-, one mile heats. For all horses the bona fide property of farmers residing in the district, and owned by them three months prior to date of running, Mr Harcourt's Yorky, 9st 21bs , ti 1 Mr Cameron's Glengat-y,;9st 21ba... -2 Mr Cameron's Blackbird, Sat Slbs.vi, 8 MAorI Race of 5 sovs.; one mile } heats. For this event there was three entries, of horses belonging to Maoris, viz., Wind, Tapoki, and- Hokitika, the last named winning both heats, the race causing much amusement to the spectators. Ladies' Purse of 20 sots., one mile and a-half<—Gentlemen riders j weight for age; the, riders to be approved of by the stewards. Mr Cameron's York, 12st 41b ... 1 MrOdbome's Shark,! 2st lib ... 2 Mr Barton's Bat, 12st lib 3 The Bat jibbed after going once round the course, and was therefore out of the race. York won : with consider-* able ease. f Consolation Handicap of 10 sots., one mile—For all beaten horses. Mr Dillon's Nikau, Bst ./, ... 1 Mr Freeth's Marie Stuart, Bst 2lb!'; 2 Mr Evans' Bidc-a-wee, 7st 4lb ..„ 3 The first two ran neck and ueck until the finish, Nikau winning by half a head. -■■-.'•
