WESTLAND RIFLE ASSOCIATION MEETING.
FIRST ANNUAL PRIZE FIRING. The fiiv.t animal competition by members of the Westland Rifle Association took place at tile Kumaia Ride Rang© on Ft id ay and Saturday last There were in all 4o entries—ten Volunteers from the First Westland Rifles, Hokftika, nine Grey Rangers, from Greymouth, and tlie other 24. were of the Kumara Rifles, but nine of the latter did not compete. The weather was all that could be desired on the Friday j and the competitors from Hokitika and Greymouth having arrived, firing commenced at half-past seven o’clock in the morning. Capt. Bonar waS in command. The entrance for each match was 2s 6d. Two sightirig shots were allowed at each range. The first and second matches Were fired dn the Friday; The names of the successful priSetakers; the company to which they belong, add their respective scores, \rith handicap and totals, are as follow : Noi 1 Match—2oo yards, handicap} tdn Shots;^
First prize, L3 } second prize, 1/2 10s; third prize, LI 10s; fourth prize; LI ; fifth prize, 10s; sixth prize, 10s; No. 2 Mat'ch.—2oo, 400, 500 yards; handicap; seven shots at eacli range.

The day having far advanced when the second match was Completed, ifc became imperative td postpone the third match till Saturday. Unfortunately it turned out a wet day, making it worse for the long-fartge competitors. But it was carried with the following resultNo. 3 Match. —4oo, 500, 600 jrardsh handicap] seven shots at each range.
