BRITISH AND FOREIGN. London, March 14. The leaders of the Radical party in the House of Commons and outside are agitating with the object of inducing Government to oider some mitigation of the prison treatment of the " suspects" who are in custody in the various gaols in Ireland. The trial of M. G. F. Lamson, surgeon, who was arrested on a charge of poisoning his brother-in-law, Percy Malcolm John, at Wimbledon, in December last, was concluded to-day. In the action for libel brought by Williams, who was Minister of Mines in the Berry Administration, against the proprietors of the Argus, a verdict has been returned for defendant, the jury finding that the comments of the Argus were fair and justifiable. The widow of Baillh-ie, publisher, has been awarded compensation lor the loss of her husband by the Jolimont Railway accident. The Australian cricketers are passengers by the steamship Assam, leaving for Guile to-day. Adelaide, March 15. At the Police Court to-day, Messrs Hicks, Barber, and Horton, were committed for trial on a charge of conspiracy to defraud the Mutual Provident Society and Australian Alliance Company.
