Hannan, at the Public Hall, and by Mr 0. W. Anderson, at the Theatre Royal His Excellency the Governor has been pleased to accept the resignation by Frank Guinness, Esq., J.P., of all his appointments in the Civil Service of the colony, as from the 30th November, 1881. An industrial school is to be established atKohimarama, in the parish of Waitemata, in the provincial district of Auckland. The land set apart contains over 29 acres and the buildings on it have been lately occupied as a naval training school. A notice from the Department of Justice dated Wellington 27th February, directs the attention of trustees in bankruptcy and others, to the fact that the cost of prosecuting fraudulent bankrupts is, by "The Fraudulent Debtors Act, 1876," and "The Debtoi'3 and Creditors Act, 1876," made a first charge on the estates. A curious incident occurred in the English v. Combined Australian match. Shortly after the innings of the Englishmen commenced Barlow hit one from Palmer hard to mid-wicket, and Boyle made an effort at a catch, but the ball rebounded out of his hands to the opposite side of the wicket, where it was firmly held by Blackham at point. The spectators, believing the batsman out, cheered lustily, but not being a catch according to the rules of cricket, Barlow remained at the wickets.
