LOCAL SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
A meeting of the Local School Coraniittee was hold on Monday evening last, at the Town Hall ; present—Mr R. J. Seddou (chairman), Messrs Barvownian, Camp' ell, Cain, and Voysey. Hie minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The ouL ward correspondence was read and approved of; and the inward read and received. in reference to a letter from Mrs Pascoe, the Secretary was instructed to infui m Mrs Pascoe that she alone is responsible for the proper classification of the children attending her school. The Secretary was also instructed to inform Mis Williams of her appointment to the position in the State School formerly held by Mrs Horneraan. It was resolved that the voting for a member for the Central Board of Education (caused by the retirement of Mr Frank Hamilton) stand over until the next monthly meeting. A report was received from the Visiting Committee for the month of February. The following is the report: Report of Visiting Committee to the Kumara School Committee. Gentlemen-—We were sorry we were unable to visit the outlying schools under the supervision of this committee, but hope at some future time to perform that part of our duty more satisfactorily both to ourselves and this committee. Me visited the Kuuiara School during the month of February and were highly pleased with the general decorum and satisfactory condition of everything connected with the school. V e inspected all the rooms under the control of the different teachers, and were impressed with the idea that the necessary confidence existed between the teachers and their pupils that is necessary to success. Our ideas of the qualifications of the head teacher would lead us to expect an excellent report from the Examiner next year. Several parents of children attending school were under the impression that the seats were too close to the benches, not giving sufficient room for children sitting erect. We consulted both the head and second teachers on the matter and were convinced that there was quite sufficient
room even for an adult It is a fact*, nevertheless, that a number of childrtii attending school have acquired a stooping gait, which we ascribe more to the quick growth of children in these colonies ; and we think it a iiiattei ; .worthy the’ consideration of this committed whether lowbacks to the seats would not be att improvement. Fergus BAreOwmasi . , Taps. E. Cain; Larrikins, March 6, 1.882.
