THE RUSH TO WOODSTOCK.
We are indebted to the courtesy of a gentleman in whom wo have the most implicit confidence for the latest particulars concerning the rush to Woodstock, which is about five or six miles from Hokitika. He telegraphs at noon to-day ; I visited the now rush at the Woodstock, with Mr P. Dungaii yesterday. Claims are marked out in double line for nearly a mile along the supposed lead. I saw several prospects giving an average of Gdwts. to load washed. The country is extensive, and if gold be found on bottoming the shafts'now going down, there is no doubt but an extensive goldfield will be opened out. The gold is scaly and shotty, dark colored, and considered a fine sample. The depth of wash is six feet, with very few large stones or boulders. Nothing more definite can be known for several days. In the meantime advise all except absolutely idle men to ivfrain from a rush to the ground till more certain information is obtained.
