[new ZEALAND PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Christchurch, February 7. The Exhibition will not be opened on Sunday. A farmer named James Whitmore committed suicide at Kaiapoi Island yesterday. He had beeu harvesting during the day with his family, and returned home before them. When they reached the house they found him hanging from the rafters of a cart shed. There was no evidence at the inquest to show any cause for the deed, and the verdict returned was that he hanged himself, hut there was no evidence to show his state of mind. Wellington, February 8. The Colonial Treasurer will leave for the south next week, and will spend about one month in travelling in various parts of the Island. Mr Bryce will leave for Auckland via the West Coast to-morrow morning He proceeds overland, and it is understood that on his arrival at Auckland he will have an interview with King Tawbiao.
