BRITISH AND FOREIGN. London, February 1. A large and influential meeting was held to-day at the Mansion House for the purpose of taking steps to raise funds to assist the Russian Jews. A powerful committee was appointed to carry out the objects of the meeting, and .£15,000 was subscribed in the room. Paris, February 1. Bonlox, manager of the Union Generate Buik, which recently suspended payment, has been arrested in consequence of disclosures made in connection with the conduct of the affairs of the institntion. New York, February 1. A lurg<dy-ati ended public meeting was held here to-dav, at which resolutions of sympathy with the position of the Jews in Russia were passed. It was also resolved to communicate with Government, and request it to intercede with the Czar with a view to steps being taken to stay the persecution of the Jews in his empire. YIENMA; February 1. The Austro-Hnngarian delegates, at their sitting to-day, voted a war credit
of eight million florins (£800,000) to meet the expenses of the army despatched to quell the rising in the southern provinces.
