Wednesday, January 11, [Before H. A. Stratford, Esq., R.M.] J. Mulvihill was charged on the information of Constable Nash with having sold liquor to a person iii a state intoxication.—The constable deposed tcf having seen a man named Murphy wandering about the Main street, on Sunday evening, and apparently drunk. He saw him go into the Court House Hotel, and followed him in. Saw a measure of beer partly full. Witness tasted it. He had previously cautioned every publican in the town against serving the man.—The evidence of C. A. Jones was to the effect that he saw Murphy in the passage, but could not say whether he was drunk or sobeh lid did not stagger. —*Mr Warner addressed the Court for defendant, and called— E. Murphy, who deposed that he was perfectly sober at the time mention' d by the constable, and that he asked for' drink, but was refused it. The only man he saw drink was the constable who tasted the beer in the measure.' The Magis) rate stated that had the case been clearly proved, he should havefelt it his duty to inflict a very heavy fine. The police were acting as benefactors to the accused.—Case dismissed. ' This was a claim for money due on a contract, in which ?5 per cent, progress payment had been agreed to be paid.—> Evidence was taken, and the case was adjourned to the 25th inst., for the purpose of allowing the Road Overseer' to make a valuation of the work, each party agreeing to abide by bis decision.-
