[new ZEALAND PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Dunedin, January 9. In the Supreme Court to-day charges of embezzlement and forgery against H. B. MTutosh, Manager of the Walton Park Coal Company, were proceeded with. He was found guilty on one charge of embezzlement, and pleaded guilty to two others, and found guilty on the charge of forgery. He pleaded guilty to all the others. Sentence was deferred til] to-morrow morning. The Railway Department have, decided to hand over to the widow Woodcock, whose son was killed hy the recent accident at K:\ilnku, a sum equal to six months of his pay. January 10. The Mayor’s salary has been fixed at £4OO a year to-day. Wellington, January 10. The Rev. David B ruce assumes the editorship of the New Zealand Times at the commencement of next week. Pungareiiu, January 11. The Constabulary are leaving the force at the rate of 15 or 20 per month. Christchurch, January 11. An inquest was held yesterday at Coalgate, on the body of Charles Rhodes, who committed suicide the previous day by taking a dose of strychnine. After hearing the evidence, which tended to show that lire deceased had not been in good health, and had become despondent, the jury returned a verdict as fblows The cause of death was poison, administered hy himself, and the state of deceased’s mind is uncertain.”
