The Christchurch mail coach succeeded in getting through yesterday, notwithstanding the swollen state of the rivers, and the Kumara branch coach arrived at the post-office at about seven o'clock in the evening. The children who were entrusted with subscription lists for their annual picnic are requested to hand them in to Mr J. Woodward, the head teacher of the JKumara State School, if they have not done so, this evening. Accounts against the Picnic Committee should also be forwarded to the Secretary before evening-. At the Resident Magistrate's Court this morning, before A. C. Campbell, Esq., J.P., Annie Cust, on a charge of drunkenness, was fined 10s., with the alternative of 48 hours' imprisonment. A sermon in Gaelic will be preached at the Presbyterian Church this evening, at 8 o'clock, by the Rev. Donald Ross, of Queenstown, Otago. The installation of the W.M. and officers of the Lazar Lodge, No. 1689, E.C. of Masons for the ensuing year will take place at the Public Hall, Kumara, tomorrow (Friday), at tliree o'clock in the afternoon. Visiting brothers of the craft are invited to attend. The usual banquet *n honor of the occasion will be held in the evening, at eight o'clock. Mr Corafoot, builder, &c, late of this town, has been again unfortunate by fire, as a telegram from Wanganui on Monday last states that a fire which occurred there that morning " destroyed the engine house of the Wanganui Sash and Door Factory. The main building had a narrow escape, but was saved by the splendid exertions of the fire brigade. There was no insurance on the building." The cricket match between the All England Eleven and the Combined Australian Team was resumed yesterday, and resulted in a draw. Horan, a renowned batsman of Victoria, made a score of 124 ; in his first innings v The English cricketers were to leave in the Arawata last night for Otago.
