In the appeal case of O'Brien and party V. M'Mahon and party, heard at the District Court, Greyraouth, on Monday and Tuesday, 213 t and 22nd November last, it will be remembered his Honor District Judge Broad reserved judgment, in order that he might go over all the evidence adduced at both Courts. His Honor delivered judgment at the District Court, Nelson, on Monday, December sth. The concluding portion of the decision was given in a special telegram to this journal last Tuesday. The full text of the judgment has been kindly forwarded to us for publication, and as it is very important to miners in pointing out how necessary it is to comply with the Goldfields bye-laws, we make no further apology for publishing it in extenso.
Messrs Bent and Bachelder's Christy Minstrels open to-night and to-morrow at the Theatre Royal. They are highly spoken of. A meeting is to be called to-morrow of gentlemen willing td form a committee to make arrangements for the usual New Year's Day picnic. It will be seen by our advertising columns that Mr D. Wright, the evangelist, will pay Kumara another visit before leaving for Dtmedin. He will hold three farewell meetings in the Presbyterian Church this week, beginning on Wednesday. Sankey's Hymns will be used, and there will be a singing practice open to all who choose to attend for half-an-hour before each meeting. From the favourable reception Mr Wright got when here last, we anticipate good gatherings. A cordial welcome is given to all. Mr Tait, the photographer, writes : " That your district may be favored with the blessings of rain, please to announce me to be in attendance at my studio, Main road, Kumara, on Friday first, ready for business." The interpretation will be thoroughly understood by our readers : Mr Tait has invariably had bad weather on previous visits, so he hopes this time to " make hay while the sun shines"—that isj on and after Friday next. We understand that the contemplated Hokitika Christmas races have fallen through, owing to there having been only two nominations for the whole of the advertised events. The teuder of Mr Alexender M'Neill, of Kumara, has been accepted for the construction of the fluming for Messrs Dwyer and party, on the Duke of Edinburgh terrace, Greenstone. Another fatality has occurred near Reeffcon. W. Bailey was killed some time on Thursday, at Lanky's Creek, the body being brought into the hospital about 10.30 the same evening. The accident occurred through a fall of rock in a cement claim at Lanky's Creek, Reefton. Deceased was brother of Mr T. Bailey, of Bailey and Humphreys, Westport.
