Mr John M'Whirter announces his candidature for the honor of representing the new electoral district of Kumara in the General Assembly. Mr Frank Guinness is a candidate for the Grey electoral district. The Hospital Committee will hold their fortnightly meeting at the Secretary's office this evening. On the application of Sergeant Emerson, the accused was remanded to Wednesday, the 16th inst., bail being allowed in two sureties of £SO, and himself in £IOO. At an early hour yesterday morning (says the West Coast Times) as the steamer Charles Edward, which arrived here yesterday, was on her passage to this port from Westport, a young married woman named Mrs Ways, a steerage passenger, came from below and deliberately jumped overboard in front of one of the paddle boxes. The Reefton Herald records the death of Mrs Amelia Nicholas, which took place at Black's Point. The deceased has for many years past conducted the business of hotel-keeping at that place.
