THE WATER SUPPLY TO THE DIGGINGS.
—♦ PUBLIC MEWING AT DILLMAN'S TOWN. A largely-attended public meeting was held at Reynolds' Hotel, Dillmau's Town, last evening, for the purpose of urging on the Government the necessity of at once commencing the construction of tbe second dam or reservoir, and widening the water-race now leading from the Kapitea Dam to the ehannel. Mr S. Agnew occupied the chair, and briefly stated the object of the meeting. Mr M orrfif proposed that a resolution, be forwarded to the Government ask-aig that the construction of the reservoir,' for which the sum of £3OOO had beeu voto.l by Parliament, ma be proceeded with at once ; and also that the work of widening the he.id-race to the sludge-channel may be at once undertaken. It wad well known that as' soon as the sludge-channel was blocked and completed, more Water than was at present a'vailible would be required. Tile motion was secotrded by Mr O'Brien and carried unanimously, amidst groat applause. A motion was also put and carried that c>pies,of the foregoing resolution 1 be forwarded to the Government.
