The race resulted as follows : Darebin ... ... ... 1 Santa Claus ... ... 2 Commotion ... ... 3 Santa Claus made the running all the way, Somnus lying second and third until he reached the distance post, when he collapsed and died away coming up the straight, Somerset, the favorite, was last nearly all the way. Darebin was lying in a good position at the distance post, when he went to the front and won comfortably. Time 2mins, 41|-secs., the fastest on record.
