was fined £2 to-day for allowing the barmaid to remain in the bar after 11 o’clock at night. Christchurch, October 18. The Christchurch Criminal Sessions opened this morning. 28 cases are sei down for hearing. There was nothing of a special character in the Judge’s charge, John Gleeson, a lad of 18, pleaded guilty to two charges of horde stealing, and got two years’ hard labor. Albert Adams, for house-breaking, was sentenced to 12 months. Thomas Lambert, for house-breaking, was sentenced to four years’ penal servitude. John Horn, for making a false declaration concerning the fame of a mother of a child, was fined £lO. The Judge said he thought the prisoner acted from motives of humanity, but the registry of. births must be correctly kept. Charles Fryatt, alias John D, Lindsey, for forgery and uttering, was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment. Frederick Cooper, forgery and uttering, four years’ penal servitude. John Sharkey, breaking and entering, 12 months. Auckland, October IS. Richard Monk has been solicited by a section of the electois to stand for Auckland North. Mrs Madden, formerly known to the Auckland play-going public as Miss Molly Leake, is dead. Miss Mary Ann Allen, alias Yeoman, was sentenced to six mouths’ imprisonment for keeping a brothel. She was at the bead of her profession, and for 14 years ;n Auckland and the Thames she has been the means of leading more young girls to immorality than any other in the profession.
