At the Supreme Court to-day in the cases against the Government arising out of the Kensington Crossing Railway accident, the following verdicts were returned; Mrs Mayo, who claimed for the loss of her 'husband, £500; C. C. Armstrong, £200; Fairbairn, £175 ; Lloyd, £75 ; Keys, £SO. Except Mayo’s, all the claims were for injuries. The point whether the Government are liable in view of the section in the Public Wotks Act declaring any person on the line within a mile of the railway crossing when the train is approaching a trespasser, was reserved for argument in Banco. Mr M. W. Green will resign his ministry ot the Christian Disciples congregation, in order to stand for Dunedin East.
The licensed victuallers in town have been supplied with a notice under the new Act cautioning them against supplying liquor to a man named Alexander, who recently attempted snicide ; and publicans want to know how to recognise him. Wanganui, October 12.
Kirkwood’s celebrated trotter. Our Pony, escaped from the grrom at Campbell Town this afternoon; She bolted . cross the bridge and up Victoria Avenue, galloping furiously underneath veianclahs on the footpath. Near the Rutland Hotel she collided with a heavy furniture dray with great force, cutting both knees badly, and seriously injuring her brad. She is not likely to recover in time for the trotting meeting, for which she was favorite.
