LOCAL SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

A meeting of the Local School Committee was held on Mouday evening last; present—Mr R. J. Seddon (in the chair), Wykle, Metcalfe, and Campbell.

The minutes of the last meetings were read and confirmed. Several letters were read and received.

It was resolved that the head-teacher, Mr Woodward, be instructed to collect the amounts due for requisites for the past quarter; and then discontinue the collection in future until further instructions, as fines will not now be required. It was resolved that the Board be informed that Mr M'Carthy's testimonials were considered by the Con> mittee.

It was resolved that Mr F. E. Byrne be authorised to see the parents of children who do not attend regularly, and urge them to be more regular, as otherwise the Gommitee will be obliged to take action under the compulsory clauses of the Education Act. It was resolved that the Board be requested to authorise the committee to procure a press for holding sewing, and shelves for books; at a cost of £3 10s. Some necessary repairs to the school were ordered to be doue and a door in the house to be repaired. It was resolved that the Board be asked to supply a terrestrial globe and a set of scientific apparatus. It was also resolved that the Board be reminded that, the amounts due to the Greenstone and West brook. schools have not been forwarded. The meeting then adjourned.
