Captain Anderson, of the Taiaroa, takes the Wauaka. At the Supreme Court to-day, Thomas Thomas, for stabbing a constable while drunk was sentenced to six months. Adolph Moritzson was acquitted on one indictment for erabezziiug. " The other indictmeut is now proceeding. -. Wellington, October 4. A young girl named Florence Barber, who was thrown from her horse on Friday, died to-day from the injuries sustained. Christchurch, October 3. Sixty-four out of the 68 vacancies at the Addington workshops are now filled up. It was stated at the beginning of the strike that the work was of such a nature that no one could be found readily to do it; it is now asserted that the men taken on are qualified workmen, who for want of something else to do have hitherto been working at other trades than their own. Wanganui, October 4.
A man named James Clarke committed suicide by cutting his throat with a razor at Allan Campbell's "farm, Brunswick line, last night. The supposed cause is said to be insanity induced by pecuniary embarrassment.
