PUBLIC WORKS ESTIMATES. SEDDON AND PYKE AT VARIANCE AND FRATERNISING. [special to kumara times.] Wellington, September 12. The Public Works Estimates come on to-night. The Town Districts Bill was opposed strongly by Mr Seddon. The Government have agreed that it shall not apply to Westland. The Premier states that Government are prepared to drop very many useful bills, and take only the Property Tax and other bills which are advanced sufficiently to allow of business being finished next week. Your junior member kicked up a breeze when Government opposed the Greymouth to Hokitika railway being included in the schedule to the Rail* way Construction Bill. Mr Pyke interfered, not knowing what the fight was about, and, as is usual in such cases, made matters worse. Rather unparliamentary language was used on both aides. Yesterday mutual friends insisted on a reconciliation, and after explanation over a bottle of “ fiz.,” Mr Pyke and the “ irrepressible” shook hands, and are now, as ever, good friends.
