A meeting of the Borough Council takes place this evening, at seven o’clock, for the consideration of a letter from Dr. Cites, the Chief Commissioner of Crown Lands, relative to the Kumara Cemetery Reserve. The mail coach arrived in Kumara at ab6ul 5. SO last evening. Finding it impracticable to cross Kelly’s Creek on Saturday morning, the driver returned to the Gorge, remained there for the night, and riiade a fresh start next morning, arriving as stated. Mr Rugg’s coach remained in the vicinity of Kelly’s Creek, on Saturday night, and thus reached here in advance of the mail by three or four hours. The Supreme Court sittings will commence in Hokitika on the 29th inst. His Holier the Chief Justice, we understand, will preside A fifth share in O’Rourke and party’s extended claim at Cape Terrace is advertised for sale. Rendall, the Napier Post-office official charged with abstracting the contents of letters, has been sentenced to twelve months’ imprisonment for having skeleton keys in his possession. He said he found them in the lodgings previously occupied by him, but had not used them. The object of dealing summarily with him on this charge was to prevent application being made for bail, pending the sitting
of the Supreme Court. On the various charges of opening letters and stealing the contents, he was committed for trial. The following telegram from a correspondent of the Dunedin Herald, was received last Thursday :—“Peter Adamson, of Bast Taieri, farmer, was killed near the Saddle Hill Junction last night. He fell from his dray while returning from Dunedin, and the wheel passed over his head, killing him instantaneously. ”
