A man was picked up in Cumberland street this morning dead, on the footpath, having fallen over the cliff behind First Church. His name is Watt, and from letters found on the bodv, it is believed he comes from Christchurch, as he is. apparently known to Barley, hotelkeeper, Dun-andle, near Christ-

church. One of the letters is from an uncle named M'Gregor Watt. The bodies of the mate and cook of the Mary Ogilvie were also found dead, lying in the stream. It is believed they were drowned while going off in the boat last night. The mate’s clothes were found in the boat, so that it is thought the cook fell over, and the mate went after him to save him, and thus both were drowned.

At the Magistrate’s Court this morning, Abraham Moses and Louis Moses were charged with feloniously and maliciously setting fire to their premises, the Cash Palace Drapery Stores. The witnesses had their evidence which was taken at the inquest read over to them, and the only fresh evidence adduced was that of James Mair, in the employment of Mr Whittaker, a shoemaker, whose yard adjoins that of the palace. Mair said that they had missed a ease very much like the one produced (which was found close by the counter in the shop, and supposed by a witness at the inquest to have shielded . the blaze). He could not positively swear to it, but they bad missed such a box. It was in the yard on Saturday evening at five o’clock, and on the Monday morning after the fire it was missing. Accused were committed for trial at the nest session of the Supreme Court, at Timaru. The same bail as before, amounting in all to £I2OO, was allowed.
