The monthly "committee meeting of this society was held on the Bth inst. at the Town Hall j present—His Worship the Mayor (in the chaii), the Reverends W. West and E. Ai Scott, Serg. Eramerson and Mr Pollock.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.

The Secretary read his report for the months of June and July. The report showed that during that period 12 persons had been relieved at a total cost of £39 18s 9d. Of this amount £5 10s had been expended on the funeral of a little child, but this sum would have been more than recouped by a special subscription which had been raised and which would receive the Government subsidy of £ per £. The money collected had been handed unconditionally to the Society, and had been collected in its name—otherwise the subsidy could not be claimed. The sum of £36 3s had been received to the credit of the society, viz., subsidies £29 18s j special subscriptions, £3 2s6d; ordinary subscriptions and donations, £3 2s 6d. There was a credit balance at the Bank of £4l 2a 7d, but the liabilities were considerable. Resolved, that the Secretary’s report be received. Accounts amounting to £42 7s 5d were passed for payment. A case of distress was reported from an outside district. The committee, while expressing its willingness to afford immediate relief, decided to invite the reporter of the case to raise a subscription for the society in the district in question. ■ The Secretary explained that through his illness, the arrangements for collecting the half-yearly subscriptions had fallen through, but that the collectors would now canvass the town without delay. Messrs M ! Glone and Smart would perform a like office at Larrikin’s Flat. The meeting then adjourned.
