WATER-SUPPLY COMMITTEE.

A meeting of the Water-supply Committee was held at Dillman's Town on the 13th instant; the following members were present—Messrs Reynolds, F. Barrownian, Lpslie, Wheeler, Duncan (in the chair), Morris, (Secretary). The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The Chairman stated that he bid received a letter from the clerk of the County Council containing a chequ.' for £o, voted l>y Council for petition

expenses. He handed over the money to the treasurer, Mr Morris. There was also a request in the letter on behalf of the County Councillors that he (die ChAirman) would find it convenient to give a short report of what actually took place at the interview with the Minister of Minos re waterraces. He (the Chairman) was quite willing to do so ; perhaps the committee desired to express an opinion. Mr Barrowman thought the Council were entitled to an account of what did transpire regarding so important a matter. He was sure Mr Dungan would carry out the wishes of the com mittee. He begged to move, "That the information solicited be given to County Councillors."—^Carried.

The following resolution was moved by Mr Wheeler, and seconded by MiLeslie i—" That the Secretary be instructed to write to the Chairman of the Prospeotitig Association, kindly requesting that a meeting of that body be convened at an early date, for the purpose of enabling the Kumara Water-supply Committee, by a small grant of money to liquidate existing debts incurred through presentation of petition to Parliament.''

Mr Barrowman said befoi'e the resolution was put, he wished to say a few words. He thought the little money wanting would be forthcoming without delayj if: expenses were double the amount what they ,were"; "a cheerful desire should exist to meet them. The committee worked hard four lone: months, left no stone unturned to secure better water-siipply, and now at last success had crowned their efforts, as Government propose" to carry dut works for a second dam that would secure an increased water-supply. The committee deserved the thanks of the people of the district for the labour given in the matter. The resolution was carried.

The Secretary hoped that their labors would soon come to a close. As soon as the expenses on behtltf of the committee (and which were indispensible) were paid off, the business of the committee as a public body he thought would be at an end.

The committee then adjourned until Saturday evening, the 27th inst.
