Death was instantaneous, He was aged SG, and had been 16 years in the ship. He leaves a family in Melbourne. Mr Pyke will not resign the Chair* manship of the Vincent County, or as M.H.K. for the district, considering that his position as editor of the Dim* edin Herald enables him to better serve the interests of the district.
Wellington, August 12. A deputation waited on the Premier to-day, asking for assistance in constructing the new dock at Port Chal* ineis. After Laruach and Reynolds had spoken as to the absolute necessity of the dock, the Premier said he would like to have their financial proposals in writing. He would lay the proposals before the Cabinet, and give an early reply.
