Intelligence has been received that a rising has commenced among the natives employed on the plantation of Are Kiawani in Senegambia, West Coast of Africa. Some excesses have already been committed against the planters, and a general panic has consequently arisen among the European settlers in the district, many of whom are leaving. Telegrams are to hand reporting that a terrible disaster has occurred in Mexico. A train conveying a large number of passengers was precipitated into the river Cuartaita, and over 200 persons were drowned.

Tenders for the two South Australian loans of £980,000 and £390,000, respectively bearing interest at 4 per cent, were opened to-day. Applications at £lO2 and upwards will receive allotments in full.

Constantinople, June 26. Evacuation has been commenced by the Turkish troops of the towns and district of Arta, in the southern portion of Epirus, which is to be ceded to Greece, in accordance with the terms of the frontier settlement. The transfer of the district will, it is expected, be made shortly.

The Government has wired to the Agent-General to arrange to send out immigrants every mail by the British India Company’s steamers to Cooktown, Townsville, Mackay, and Rockhampton. Instructions have also been sent to send 4000 immigrants annually by sailing vessels instead of 2000.
