[new ZEALAND PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Blenheim, June 20. A telegram from Havelock reports that Peter Gorrig was drowned in a cieek at the foot of Totara Hill, on the way to Nelson, on Saturday night. The body has been recovered. Dunedin, June 22, Powditch’s store, north-east valley, was totally burnt down this morning. The building was insured in the South British for £3OO, the stock in the Colonial for £l5O. Loss £250 over insurance. At the inquest on John M'Elenny, who was killed by a train running over him the verdict was “ Accidental death,” no blame being attached to the driver. June 23. Yesterday a verdiet for £l5O damages was given against Dr, Todd, Waipawa, for malpractice. He treated a man named Sutton for a sprained arm when his shoulder was dislocated. In consequence the man’s arm is now almost useless. A man named Sutherland, carrier, died in the hospital to-day from injuries received by a fall from a horse. Arrangements have been made by a number of gentlemen interested in education to bring out a monthly education journal of sixteen pages. The first number appears in the beginning of August. It will be published at° the Herald office. Auckland, June 22. The Captain of the City of New York declined to go last night without a pilot, and sailed at daylight.
