BRITISH AND FOREIGN. London, June 21. The returns of the census taken on the 3rd April last show that the population of Ireland has decreased by 250,000 during the decade. Constantinople, June 21. Earl Dufferin, who recently arrived here to fill the post of British Ambassador, in succession to the Right Hon, J. G. Goschen has had an audience of the Sultan. His Majesty, in the course of the interview, made the most cordial reference to the ancient friendship between England and Turkey, and expressed a hope that the same would continue. — LATEST AUSTRALIAN NEWS. Melbourne, June 23. In the Legislative Assembly to-day, Sir Bryan O'Loughlin notified his motion of no-confidence in the Ministry, and the House then adjourned. It is understood that the Opposition members generally will support the motion. Adelaide, June 23. The Hon. G. Hawkes, who was entrusted with the formation of a new Ministry, consequent on the retirement of the Hon. W. Morgan, has intimated to the Governor his inability to complete the task, and the Hon. John Colton has accordingly been summoned by his Excellency to undertake the formation of a Government. Sydney, June 23. In view of the continued absence of fresh cases of small-pox, there seems every reason to believe that the disease has been stamped out.
