BRITISH AND FOREIGN. London, June S. Alarming discoveries continue to be made of Nihilistic plots to murder the Russian sovereign, and considerable anxiety exists for the safety of the Czar, in consequence of numerous preparations being made to ensure his destruction. One of the latest discoveries made by the police is the existence of a dynamite mine underneath the railway station at Gathschina, about 100 miles from St. Petersburg. A battery was connected by wire with the telegraph office, and this led to the suspicion that the telegraph clerks were implicated in the plot. All the clerks have been arrested. The police also discovered a dynamite infernal machine beneath the Czar's seat in the church. June 16. Iu the House of Commons the first clause of the Irish Land Bill, referring to the classification of tenants, which had been under discussion since the 31st ult., was passed through committee to-day. The consideration of the second clause of the Bill has been commenced. The D.iily News, today, published a paragraph stating that the English Government has sent a communication to the United States Government, calling attention to the present nature and extent of the Fenian movement in England, and requesting that steps may be taken to preveut the operations of Feuians in America. June 17. The Irish Land Bill has been again under consideration in Committee of the whole in the House of Commons to-day, when the second clause was passed, after some discussion.
Favorable accounts are published as to the state of the English wheat crops. Paris, June 17. Accounts to hand from the wheatgrowing districts give favorable reports of the prospects of the French crops. ♦ LATEST AUSTRALIAN NEWS. Adelaide, June 18. A grand ball was given by the Mayor last night in the Town Hall in honor of the Royal Princes. The ball passed off with great success. Melbourne, June 18. A vote of want of confidence in the Government will be proposed in the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday next. It has further transpired that the motion will be introduced by Sir Bryan O'Loughlin. It is uncertain what action will be taken by the Opposition members generally \ but even if they support the motiou it is still expected that Ministers will have a small majority in their favor. Her Majesty's ships Bacchante and Cleopatra arrived to-day from King George's Sound. The former will at once go into dock to complete her repairs. Sydney, June 17.
