In the House of Commons the consideration of the Irish Land Bill in Committee was resumed on the 9th inst., after the Whitsun recess, and has continued at each day's sitting since that day. June 14. In the House of Commons last night, in the course of a debate on the Irish Land Bill, the Bight Hon. W. E. Gladstone made a speech, in which, he remonstrated against the opposition shown to the Bill, and hinted that the Government was prepared, if necessarv, to demand an urgency order to ensure its speedy passage through the House. Paris, June 13. Intelligence has been received from Algeria that an engagement has taken place between the French troops and a body of Algerian insurgents. The latter were totally defeated with the loss of fifty killed. ♦ LATEST AUSTRALIAN NEWS. Melbourne, June 15. At a caucus of the Ministerialists, held today, it was decided by 38 to 4 to abandon the Reform Bill. On Parliament re-assembling to-day, Mr Berry made a statement, in which he confirmed the announcement of the decision of the Ministerial caucus. Sir Bryan O'Loughlin thereupon moved that Conference of the two Houses should be held on the Bill. A desultory debate followed, and still continues. The steamship Albion, which sailed yesterday for Bluff, took the English mails, dated London, May 6, which arrived per R.M.S. Cathay.

Sydney, June 15. A carpenter, who has lately been working at a house in lower George street, opposite the residence of Ou Chong, a Chinese merchant, whose child has been suffering from small pox, has caught the disease. He resides with fourteen other persons in a house at Surrey Hill. The house has been quarantined by the police, and the neighbors are leaving the locality.
