Dunedin, June 7. By personal efforts at the Dunedin police station, one of the recognised bodies that had been buried has now been identified as that of James Turner, second steward of the vessel. The body of a boy which came ashore without a head has also been recognised as that of Donald Campbell, son of Dr. Campbell.
The coffee palace here promises to be a great success.
Tijiaru, June 8. Meetings of the unemployed have been held, and a committee formed to interview the Mayor and Mr Turnbull, M.H.R., re woi’ka to give them employment.
New Plymouth, June 8. Benjamin Wells, editor of the Taranaki News, and an old settler, filling several public offices, died after a brief illness.
Auckland, June 8. Robert Good slipped while uncoupling some ballast waggons at Helensville railway, and the waggons passed over both thighs. He was brought to the Auckland Hospital. John Davis, aged 72, was committed on a charge of violating Alice Messenger, under 12 years old. The man treated the charge with indifference and levity. There has been the heaviest flood seen at Dargarville ior five years. 1600 logs of the Sash and Door Com’ pany got adrift, but were ultimately secured.
The steamers Taiaroa and Ringarooma, when off Cape Colville on Monday, observed evidence of a submarine eruption.
